Gabe Leonard’s Paintings

The Cinematic Artist. Gabe Leonard’s paintings take you into a world rich with inimitable atmosphere and narrative intrigue. Leonard spent his early years in the mountain state of Wyoming, sketching wildlife and selling them to his school friends for a dollar. After graduating from Columbus College, Ohio with a BA in Fine Art, he moved to Los Angeles where he first honed his skills on the ultra-competitive boardwalk of Venice Beach. His work has been described as “Johnny Cash meets Quentin Tarantino” and he captures rich moods by combining the free brushwork of an expressive artist combined with the lighting and framing of a seasoned Hollywood cinematographer. Drawn to rugged and romantic film noir characters, Leonard merges technically brilliant figurative painting with a finely crafted cinematic atmosphere, creating snapshot moments full of narrative possibilities. The trademark runs and drips in his work are a deliberate break from acedemic restrictions and allow him to be more expressive, free and loose. Continued reading →

2010 World Cup Sports Memorabilia Frame

Here at ART on 5th, saying “we like framing” is an understatement. We not only enjoy designing custom frames, we love it. One of the highlights of custom framing is seeing the piece’s progress from start to finish. So we’ve decided to share our favorite framing pictures with you! One client this month is a huge soccer fan! He wanted to frame some of his soccer tickets along with the corresponding magazine. Here are the before and after pictures. Our difference is our unique design sense. We are truly custom frame DESIGNERS. First, instead of using colored paper mats, we use hand-wrapped linen mats to provide space between your artwork and the frame. Hand-wrapped linen is richer in appearance and has more depth, Continued reading →

Dr. Seuss Limited Art Framed

Not only do we carry over 40 contemporary artists here at ART on 5th but we are also the home to the Secret Art of Dr. Seuss! The Secret Art shows a side of Dr. Seuss that most readers, who are familiar with him through his classic children’s books, have never seen. These fantastic images have the inimitable style of Geisel’s alter ego, Dr. Seuss, frequently depicting outlandish creatures in otherworldly settings. The Seuss humor is also evident, as well as the insight that often gave his stories deeper meaning. However, these works break new ground, using a dazzling rainbow of hues not seen in the primary-color palette of Geisel’s books for children. We have combined our love of custom framing with the incredible works of Theodor “Ted” Seuss Geisel. We love framing Dr. Seuss pieces because the artwork allows us to experiment with playful frame combinations that compliment the Continued reading →

Walt Disney Shadow Box Frame

We love our framing clients. Some have been with us for over a decade, thank you! Our clients visit ART of 5th because we make beautiful frames, we accentuate their artwork, and we are creative. Take the recent piece we created for a Walt Disney memorabilia collector. He had a limited edition (insert year) copy of Walt’s Disney (insert title). The client wanted a frame that would display this rare collectible, but also enable him to access the book to share the contents. Joe Sigel, owner of ART on 5th and veteran framer, put together a great look that brought together the client’s vision with the design ascetic ART on 5th brings to every piece it creates. Take a look at some of the images below. This is going to be part of a ongoing series. We have some truly unique frames and we cannot wait to share them with you. Continued reading →
