Custom Framing for Jermaine Rogers Show!

Recently we hosted one of our biggest and most successful shows for rock and roll poster artist Jermaine Rogers. We have over 400 pieces by Jermaine, so saying it was tough to pick out which ones to custom frame…would be an understatement. We really got to go all out with these. We included linen floats, floater frames, black linen top matting, and certain pieces with no matting (just using a spacer to lift the glass off of the piece)! All of the pieces have UV protected plexi-glas to protect them from fading. One of the pieces even has an old school Baroque feel: This next piece was by far the most interesting to design. Jermaine had given us one of his “test proofs” of his designs for the Dog Fish Head Brewing Company’s seasonal beer labels. The piece is front and back with full color labels on one side and a Continued reading →

Dr. Seuss’s Freebird

Like I’ve said before, custom framing Dr. Seuss pieces are some of my favorite pieces to frame. Recently I got to custom frame Dr. Seuss’s Freebird for a couple starting to fill their walls. This was one of the first time’s I was looking for something a little more traditional, but still fun. Typically when I frame I got all out and mostly modern, this one was a challenge, but a fun one. I LOVE the outcome! The combination of gold and silver created this rustic yet classic feel for the piece and the fillet which matched the inside lip of the frame was just icing on the cake. This massive 4″ frame had the possibility of overwhelming the piece, but it did just the opposite, it compliments perfectly. Not to mention our awesome hand wrapped linen liner and mat to give the frame some breathing room as well as Continued reading →

Hermés Scarf

Last week a client brought in one of the most beautiful Hermés Paris scarves I’ve ever seen. Framing this Hermés scarf was one of my favorite designs so far. We have framed many scarves, but it never gets old.  Framing cloth items and textiles often requires a bit more work than a normal frame job because most of the pieces require hand sewing to the backing/mating. This piece was also topped with museum glass which offers the highest level of ultra light filtering technology and eliminates up to 85% of the annoying glare that hinders you from enjoying your art.  On top of being anti-reflective, the museum glass has conservation grade UV protection.  So you’re pieces will look amazing and be safe from long term damage! With this scarf having such a fun and wild pattern, we had to pick a frame that would match the energy without overpowering the piece. This modern Continued reading →

Burled Wood Frames

Howdy! This week we were brought an amazing canvas from Kenya! We decided to go with a burled wood frame with a scoop profile and it was exactly what the piece needed. Burled wood frames come with warmth and beauty difficult to find in other frames. Whether your home is modern or traditional, burled woods find the middle ground to be able to go in any home. The frame combines strong yet subtle detail along with a rough texture that doesn’t over-power the piece. The texture of the wood compliments the tribal nature of the piece and has the look of a frame that the artist made special for the piece.

Make Tea Not War: Exposing the back side…

Needing to be able to see the front AND the back of a particular piece? Well backless framing is no problem for us! I recently had a client come in to frame a “Make Tea Not War” postcard, but still wanted to be able to see the back side where it had been addressed. We framed the back with it’s own linen matting and another piece of plexi-glas on top of it, giving it’s own frame separate from the front. We used plexi-glas instead of regular glass because it is light weight, and since we were using two sheets it was able to stay that way once it was put together. Once the extended piece of kevlar cord is attached and he will be able to swing it back and forth making it easy to display and show off both sides of the piece. This postcard was interesting to say Continued reading →

Vintage Binaca Poster

Last week I was lucky enough to get an original vintage Binaca poster from 1944 in the gallery for custom framing. This poster “Swiss Object Realism Style” by famous poster designer Niklaus Stoecklin from 1944 is nothing short of amazing.  When it comes to framing an old poster, considering linen backing is always a good option. “Linen Backing is a conservation method used to mount and preserve vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value. Damaged posters are stabilized through linen backing and restoration to protect the poster from further damage. Linen backing holds the poster flat and smooth allowing it to be easily handled, stored or framed. Most vintage posters have suffered tears, folds and losses over the years. This makes them look frayed and irreparable. Don’t let this discourage you. An experienced restorer is capable of bringing a damaged poster back to life. Folds can be easily flattened once Continued reading →
