Over the weekend we had a fantastic trunk show with an art dealer from NYC. Two clients purchased a few pieces but they couldn’t decide if they were going to keep the pieces in their Austin condo or another home in the Midwest. They were almost positive they would keep the painting in Austin but challenged me to find something “transitional” in case they changed their minds.
Our philosophy for custom framing is always frame for the piece and this frame job was no exception. Typically natural wood frames are the most transitional because they can be dressed up or dressed down. The clients have a lot of wood in both homes and wanted to go with something a bit different. We looked at highlighting the blues in the piece but decided that a bronze with red undertones would not only enhance the warm tones but also balance all the blue.
The bronze frame we chose has a profile that accentuates the organic forms in the painting and we added a gold fillet in between the double mats to add sophistication and size to the piece. The gold fillet brings another color into the piece and helps to keep the piece transitional. The clients were very pleased with design frame design because it can go with traditional or contemporary interiors.
